New Development: Thomas Patullo, Cape Town

Galetti Knight Frank August 18, 2014

It’s becoming hard to keep up with the pace of development on the Cape Town foreshore, as the Thomas Patullo project gets under way.

Thomas Patullo Building Redevelopment

Thomas Patullo is one of the latest developments on the foreshore. The building will undergo a major transformation over the coming months. Designed by Bomax Architects, the new-look property will feature black glass panels, which will modernise the façade and bring it in line with its neighbours – most of which underwent transformations of their own. This latest development is the final phase of a project that saw the redevelopment of the block just behind it.

As you will notice from the image below, construction work appears to be limited to the interior of the building for the time being. It is expected that within a few months work will spread to its exterior too.

The inflow of investment into the foreshore and greater CBD over the past 3 years has been nothing short of staggering. The largest single office development undertaken in the city centre to date was recently completed. It comes in the form of Portside, which has also become the city’s tallest building. Other towers recently completed include Roggebaai Square near the convention centre and 22 Bree – the new home of Bowman Gilfillan attorneys in the city.

But some of the most exciting developments have only just begun construction. Work is steaming ahead on the new Chris Barnard Memorial Hospital, which will also include the redevelopment of the current Chevron premises just next door. In front of Naspers Centre, the CTICC East expansion has finally gotten under way, which will also play host to one of the city’s tallest towers in a few years’ time. The Atlantic Centre project continues on the eastern foreshore, with phase 2 nearing completion. It included an expansion to the site’s parking garage, which will service future office phases. The major redevelopment of The Towers (ex Standard Bank Centre) also continues. The new glass facade is beginning to emerge from beneath the scaffolding erected around the two towers.

We’re certainly looking forward to yet another building undergoing a redevelopment and further modernising the foreshore area! Make sure to stay up to date with the latest news regarding the Thomas Patullo redevelopment on the Galetti Blog!
